Satkinsky District (Russian: Са́ткинский райо́н) is an administrative and municipal district (raion), one of the twenty-seven in Chelyabinsk Oblast, Russia.[1] It is located in the west of the oblast. The area of the district is 2,397 square kilometers (925 sq mi).[citation needed] Its administrative center is the town of Satka.[1] Population (excluding the administrative center): 39,371 (2010 Census);[2] 42,443 (2002 Census);[5] 46,271 (1989 Soviet census).[6]

Geography

Nurgush is a 50 kilometres (31 mi) long mountain range, part of the Southern Urals, located in the district by the Zyuratkul lake. It has the highest point of Chelyabinsk Oblast, reaching 1,406 metres (4,613 ft) above sea level.[7]

Administrative and municipal status

Within the framework of administrative divisions, it has a status of a town with territorial district—a unit equal in status to administrative districts—the full name of which is The Town of Satka and Satkinsky District (город Сатка и Саткинский район). As a municipal division, it is incorporated as Satkinsky Municipal District.[1]
