Samba Touré (born June 15, 1968) is a Malian singer and guitarist.[1]
Biography
[edit]Touré grew up in Diré, in the Tomboctou Region. After moving to the capital, Bamako, at age 25, Touré formed the multi-ethnic group Farafina Lolo, whose variety led to much popularity and success among Mali's different ethnic groups. In the band, Touré did not yet play guitar, but performed as the group's singer.
Farafina Lolo (Star of Africa) with Touré released two albums (through K7, and only in Mali). The group later split into two parts. Touré and one part of the group formed Super Lolo, releasing only one album, while Farafina Lolo pursued their own career.
Encouraged by Ali Farka Touré, Touré continued to learn the guitar. Towards the end of the 1990s, Super Lolo broke up, and Touré was recruited by Ali Farka Touré's group as a rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist for an international tour in 1997 and 1998.
On returning to Mali, Touré formed his group Fondo and began to compose his own music. He recorded his first album, Fondo, which was released in 2003 in Mali. The album found success due to the song "Anbafo", which still closes all of his concerts.
