Political career

[edit]

The directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) booked a criminal case against Velumani and his associates in September 2022 in connection with a scam of Rs 500 crore in the purchase of LED street lights.[6] The case accuses Velumani of misusing his authority by favoring his close associates in awarding tenders, resulting in financial losses for the government during the replacement of rural area street lights between 2015 and 2018.[7]

The Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Vigilance (DVAC) launched an investigation into a case of disproportionate assets (DA) against former AIADMK minister S P Velumani. In March 2022, they carried out searches at 59 locations belonging to Velumani and his family members, discovering 11 kilograms of gold and documents related to various cryptocurrencies. [8]
