SM Kamrul Hassan is a Lieutenant General of the Bangladesh Army and is currently appointed the 17th Principal Staff Officer (PSO) of Armed Forces Division.[1] Before being appointed as PSO he was Senior Directing Staff at National Defence College (NDC)[2]. Prior to that he was the Commandant Of Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA) and also Commanded the 66th Infantry Division and Rangpur Area as General-Officer-Commanding (GOC).[1]
Education
Hassan has three Masters Degrees[3][4][5] and obtained a PhD on "Internet Usage in Political Communication: A Study on Selected Political Parties of Bangladesh".[6]
Career
Hassan was the Chief Instructor of Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC)[7] and Senior Directing Staff at National Defence College (NDC) where he trained Army, Navy and Airforce officers from various nations.[2] Furthermore, he served as the Commandant Of Bangladesh Military Academy.[1]
Hassan has raised the 52nd Infantry Brigade[5]. In 2020, he was also commander of the 6th Infantry Brigade before being promoted to Major General as General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 66th Infantry Division.[8].
On 22nd of August 2024, Hassan was appointed PSO, as head of Armed Forces Division[1]. Bangladesh's Joint Command Centre (JCC) during war time, under the Chief Advisor's Office.[9]
UN and Insurgency
Hassan has over 10 years of active operational duty in Chittagong Hill Tracks Insurgency and United Nations.
With UN, He operated at UNIKOM in Iraq-Kuwait as Mechanized Platoon Commander, UNMIL in Liberia as Operations Officer and MINUSCA's Sector Commander in Central African Republic as Brigadier General.[3][10][4]
