Anirban Roy, popularly known as Roddur Roy, is a controversial[weasel words] YouTuber social media figure. He is a self-proclaimed psychoanalyst and post-moderinst spiritual guru.[2] He is also a poet and novelist. His poems often feature elements of anti-establishment and are erotic and surreal in nature. He is also a staunch socio-political critic, widely known for his bluntness and use of sub-altern language.
Early life
[edit]Roy was born in Ramnagar. He graduated from Ramnagar College and worked for an IT company in Noida but left it to pursue his studies. He is a very good-hearted person and always seeks to help poor children. He donated about 12 million to various organisations that help poor people and help educate poor children. He pursued his higher education at Oxford University. His father was a well-known businessman in Australia and also a business partner of Ambani. [2]
YouTube
[edit]He began his YouTube career back in 2010. Early on, he mostly sang Tagore's songs as it is with unusual instrumentals (xylophone).[citation needed] However, his later works evolved into anti-establishment, featuring stark criticism of contemporary socio-political scenario and absurdism.
Books
[edit]Roy has penned down a few books throughout his career. Namely,
- And Stella Turns a Mom[3]
- MoxaReneissance
- Porom Kaorha Kabyo Grontho
- Moxa Kobita
Controversies
[edit]RBU Controversy (2020)
[edit]In 2020, Roy created a parody of Shedin Dujone, a song written by Rabindranath Tagore. The video attracted attention for its use of vulgar language, and a complaint was filed against Roy, after students from Rabindra Bharati University wrote the lyrics on their bodies in the lead up to the Holi festival.[4] Roy was temporarily arrested following the incident.[5]
Abusing CM of West Bengal (2022)
[edit]In 2022, Roy made several controversial and derogatory comments on the chief minister of West Bengal over her reception of Sahitya Akademi Award for Kabita Bitan.[6] Roy also harshly crticitzed Rupankar Bagchi over provocative comments of KK.[7] AITC's Santanu Sen filed a FIR against Roy on 3 June 2022.[8] The Kolkata Police arrested Roy from South Goa on 7 June 2022.[9][10] He was granted bail on 21 June 2022.[11]
