[edit]

The area of Redvale was a rural community in 1905.[3]

History

[edit]

In the early 1920s Redvale Lime Quarry was opened. The quarry site was bought in 1988 by Waste Managent NZ.[4]

Since 1993, Redvale has been the location of Redvale Landfill and Energy, which is consented until 2028. In 2024 the site was managed by Waste Management NZ. Methane created by the decomposing waste is used to generate electricity and the site also has a facility to convert domestic food waste into fertilizer.[5][6]. In 2024 it was handling half of Auckland region's waste.[7]
