Rayyan Baniya (born 18 February 1999) is a professional footballer who plays as a defender for Serie B club Palermo, on loan from Süper Lig club Trabzonspor. Born in Italy, he chose to represent Turkey at international level.
Club career
[edit]Verona
[edit]He joined the Under-19 squad of Verona before the 2016–17 season. He did not receive any call-ups to the senior squad in 2016–17 and 2017–18 seasons. He spent the 2018–19 season on loan at Serie D side Mantova.[1] On 29 June 2019 he signed his first professional contract with Verona for a 3-year term.[2]
Loan to Renate
[edit]On 17 July 2019 he joined Serie C club Renate on loan.[3]
He made his professional Serie C debut for Renate on 25 August 2019 in a game against Giana Erminio. He started the game and played the whole match.[4]
Second loan to Mantova
[edit]On 1 September 2020 he returned to Mantova, this time in Serie C.[5]
Fatih Karagümrük
[edit]On 22 June 2021, he signed with Fatih Karagümrük in Turkey.[6]
Trabzonspor
[edit]On 18 August 2023, he signed a 4+1 year contract with Süper Lig club Trabzonspor.[7]
On 26 August 2024, Baniya moved to Palermo in Serie B on loan, with an option to buy.[8]
International career
[edit]In October 2023, Baniya received his first call-up to the Turkey senior national team for two UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying matches against Croatia and Latvia.[9]
Personal life
[edit]Born in Bologna, Italy to a Beninese father and a Turkish mother, Baniya holds Italian and Turkish passports.[10]
