Raphael Zagury-Orly is an Israeli philosopher.[1]

Biography

Formation

He was the visiting professor of philosophy at the Institut Catholique de Paris, professor at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem (2003–2014), and he directed a Master of Fine Arts program (2010–2014). He held positions at the Cohn Institutef of Tel Aviv University (2009–2013), at the State University of Design in Karlsruhe (2014–2015), at the Sapienza University of Rome (2015–2016), at the Doctoral School of Sciences Po Paris (2017–2020), and a research fellow in philosophy at the Karl Jaspers Centre at Heidelberg University (2015–2016).[2][3]

Career

In 2019, he was Program Director at the International College of Philosophy and Associate Researcher at the Center for Research on Arts and Language (CRAL – CNRS/EHESS). In 2015, he coordinated the international symposium Heidegger et "les juifs",[4] and, from 2010 to 2015, he was a member of the editorial board of the journal Les Temps Modernes. In 2018, he co-founded, with Alain Fleischer, “L’Humain qui vient” with Le Fresnoy National Studio, Penn State University, and the Center for Research on Arts and Language (CRAL – CNRS/EHESS).[5]

Philosophy

His work focuses mainly on German idealism, phenomenology, contemporary French philosophy in the tradition of Derridean deconstruction, and Levinasian ethics. His research also focuses on contemporary art theory.[6][7]

In 2017, he was named a Knight in the Order of Arts and Letters.
