Ramgarh or Ramgarh Shekhawati is a town and a municipality in Ramgarh tehsil of Sikar district in the Indian state of Rajasthan.
Geography
[edit]Ramgarh Shekhawati town is located in Shekhawati region of Rajasthan. The area surrounding this town is semi-arid. The town located at trijunction of Churu district in north, Jhunjhunu district in East and Sikar district in south.[1] The city of Churu is at a distance of about 17 km from the town.The famous personality Shri Shivraj Kavia's village Nimakidhani is 3 km from RamgRh Shekhawati.
Demographics
[edit]According to the 2001 Indian census,[2] Ramgarh had a population of 90124. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Ramgarh has an average literacy rate of 59%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 69%, and female literacy is 48%. In Ramgarh, 18% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Tourism
[edit]The city is known for the most of its tourism .Mainly for its beautiful havelis named Ramgopal ki Chatri and many more.All the havelis are now commercialised as an hotels.
History
[edit]The city was established by the wool poddar traders of the Churu District.Which was very prestigious and very rich.The conditions of thakurs in the Churu was bad.They imposed heavy taxes over the Poddars.Thus poddar revolted.They challenged to the thakurs to establish a more affluent city than Churu.In order to complete they met to the king of Sikar . Who allotted them the land of Ramgarh Shekhawati and Poddar made it prestigious and rich by building havelis in the city and they painted the havelis from the German imported colours.The colours used are of very good quality that their lustre have not been even lasted after about 230+ years.The city have about 125 havelis and known for tourism nowadays.
Transport
[edit]Ramgarh is well connected by road and rail transport. National Highway 52 passes on western outskirt of town. Ramgarh Shekhawati railway station[3] is located on the eastern part of the town.
