Portal Overhaul
[edit]Now, with the new Tokyo taskforce, I'm getting interested in trying to promote this portal featured... or at least a working portal. After I'm finished with Portal:Japan, I will likely start to tackle this portal. Anyone interested in helping is welcome! --TorsodogTalk 18:43, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
- I am now spreading this template to many articles so that it is easily accessible. WhisperToMe (talk) 22:19, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
- Don't know what the present thinking is, but when I started Portal:Japan a few years ago and started putting templates in lots of articles, someone asked me to stop (and I did). I can't remember the guideline he cited but it was something like "just Japan," which would suggest "just Tokyo." I hope it's changed, and my instinct was to publicize the portal widely, but I do see some logic: the purpose of a portal is to lead readers to articles; the purpose of articles isn't really to lead to portals. (And articles have catgories and See Also sections to lead to related topics.) Fg2 (talk) 02:00, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
- New layout may be needed.. I removed some sections few months ago since I had no idea (or ran out of ideas after few month pages) on what to add for some, and no one else seemed to update it. New sections may be considered. --staka (T) 04:13, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
- Why are you refusing to let me change the layout of the portal? The new layout is more manageable and better for users with different display settings. Please stop reverting my edit. --TorsodogTalk 04:22, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, you are right. The portal does break in IE. I believe it is because of the categories component. Let me play with it for a minute. I think I can fix this pretty fast... hopefully. --TorsodogTalk 04:35, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
- I believe I fixed the glitch in IE. Please let me know if you see any other problems with the portal in IE, as I usually use Firefox exclusively and forget to test it in IE. --TorsodogTalk 05:42, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
- There are no problems on the current version of the layout. Thanks for fixing. --staka (T) 17:44, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Also shouldn't we mention the task force on this portal? WhisperToMe (talk) 20:17, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
Deletion of subpages..
[edit]These subpages I created for the portal are currently not used in the article:
- Portal:Tokyo/selected article (redirect to /Selected article)
- Portal:Tokyo/Selected picture/February
- Portal:Tokyo/Selected article/February
- Portal:Tokyo/Selected picture/March
- Portal:Tokyo/Selected article/March
- Portal:Tokyo/Selected picture/April
- Portal:Tokyo/Selected article/April
- Portal:Tokyo/Selected biography/April
- Portal:Tokyo/Selected picture/May
- Portal:Tokyo/Selected article/May
- Portal:Tokyo/Did you know/May
- Portal:Tokyo/Selected picture/June
- Portal:Tokyo/Selected picture/July
Should I delete them if they are not going to be used in the portal? Since we are now using /1, /2 etc. as subpages to make everything easier.. and if so, how would I delete them? Up for speedy deletion? --staka (T) 14:48, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not really sure how to delete them either, and that is partially why I left them alone for now. If I had to guess, it would be speedy deletion. Also, I added a couple of them, but if there are other pictures/articles/DYKs that were in the past format that aren't in the current queue and you feel like they should be, feel free to add them! --TorsodogTalk 14:54, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
- Okay thanks. I could just move the selected picture and article pages and edit to make it like the current format to make it easier. There could be about 5 pages for the DYKs since I found it hard to make one when we just know, and think that other people may not know.. I'll delete Portal:Tokyo/Selected biography/April unless you are adding selected biography section to the layout. I don't know if other people are watching this portal but I'll wait for other responses. --staka (T) 15:04, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
- Personally, I don't think there is enough content to warrant a biography section. I will incorporate the Miyazaki article into the portal as a selected article, though. And as for DYK, what I have now is basically just a place holder until I found more/better DYKs, so feel free to do whatever you want with that section. --TorsodogTalk 15:13, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

News not new?
[edit]The top item in the news section is currently the Akihabara massacre, which occured on June 8 2008, last year. All of the other items are from dates past that. If no news items exist, there should at least be indication of the items' years. —Preceding unsigned comment added by N0nick (talk • contribs) 19:45, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

Selected Image out of date
[edit]Has anyone noticed that the selected image (File:Shibuya_Toyoko_Line.jpg) shows a station platform that closed 6-1/2 YEARS ago? --Calton | Talk 04:18, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
