Religion portals

[edit]

I've noticed you've created quite a plethora of religion-based portals. In accordance with the conventions currently being discussed at WPT:P, I would like you to confirm that you intend to maintain all of these portals (I believe at least 6 are accredited to you at present), and that you intend to improve them in order to bring them up to the standard that is requested and required in order to maintain their presence in the namespace. While major religions are fairly high-volume and require suitable portals, several of the recent ones you have made are fairly irrelevant and definitely not high volume. While you have clearly put work into their creation, I feel obliged to let you know that several are liable to be removed from the namespace unless they demonstrate their necessity through extensive links either by articles or through the category system.

Finally, I must also point out that most of your portals are not listed at either WP:P or Portal:Browse, both of which are requirements stated at WP:P. Please feel free to contact me should you wish to discuss these matters further.

All the best, Deano 18:04, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Religion Portals

[edit]

Someone said that he will delete the religious portals I set up if I don't do this and that. Will you please update the religious portals to confirm to whatever standards. Also, please help maintain the portals. Any advice, suggestions, etc are appreciated. Maybe I shouldn't have wasted my time with creating the portals. While creating the portals, I ensured that all information was accurate. These are the religious portals I established. -> Islam · Buddhism · Hinduism · Sikhism · Bahá'í Faith · Jainism · Shinto · Confucianism · Taoism · Zoroastrianism --JuanMuslim 1m 21:21, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Update

[edit]

How long should each of the sections in the Portal be updated? DaGizza Chat 06:40, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

weekly to monthly?--Dangerous-Boy 06:56, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

put this pic on the featured pic section. It looks awesome.

--Dangerous-Boy 07:17, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Festivals section

[edit]

This constantly needs to be updated. It will be good if a sub-page with a comprehensive list is created so it is easier to update. GizzaChat © 11:48, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

maybe List of Hindu festivals?--Dangerous-Boy 17:57, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I started making a separate list for Hindu festivals. Click the above link.--Dangerous-Boy 23:08, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Temple pictures

[edit]

If possible, please someone upload good quality major temple pictures like Akshardham and Tirupati with proper Licensing. These pictures are required in many Hinduism, India and religion related articles. Thanks. - Holy Ganga talk 21:07, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Should list this on the noticeboard.--Dangerous-Boy 22:23, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Dharmic Religion stubs proposed for deletion

[edit]

Category:Dharmic Religion stubs has been nominated for deletion (see the discussion. The principal argument offered for deletion is that the category currently contains only 4 articles. A number of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism etc. stubs deal with topics that are common to all Dharmic religions. These stubs might be profitably moved to Category:Dharmic Religion stubs rather than those of a specific religion. If you have opinions on whether any particular stub article should be recategorized, or whether you would approve of a recategorization on your behalf, please discuss at Category talk:Dharmic religions#Category:Dharmic Religion stubs proposed for deletion. --BostonMA talk 01:07, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Selected Hindu ?

[edit]

Perhaps the section title should be changed from "Selected Hindu" to "Selected biography". The latter sound better to me and leaves open the option of including non-Hindu figures who may have played an important role with respect to Hinduism, e.g. Max Muller, or Theosophists like Annie Besant, Jiddu Krishnamurti etc. Abecedare 19:01, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I went ahead and made the change. Abecedare 23:31, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why so quickly?

[edit]

It is my opinion that the selected quotes, articles and images change too quickly. Kkrystian 10:17, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why is there only one portal?

[edit]

If there are five portals about Christianity and two about Islam why must all other religions only have one portal? IMO we should create: Portal:Vaishnavism, Portal:Shaivism, Portal:Shaktism, Portal:Smartism and Portal:Hindu scriptures. What do you think about it? Kkrystian 18:30, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually in my opinion, that would be a good idea. ~ 01er 18:24, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The sub-portals do not necessarily have to be about denominations. Other possibilities include specific texts, schools of philosophy, deities and historical periods. GizzaDiscuss © 06:10, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

BC/BCE

[edit]

Hello. Sorry to bother you, but is anyone interested in stating their opinions as Hindus on the use of BC/AD and BCE/CE for a discussion on the subject here? Thanks -- spincontrol 20:15, 2 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I am from the West and I speak English. Obviously, Krishnaism is the most recognisable form of Hinduism to me. I am curious, as I cannot find the word Krishnaism on the portal, under which category does it actually belong? ~ R.T.G 14:18, 26 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

See Krishna and also look under Vaishnavism. For future reference, WT:HNB is a better venue to get help regarding Hinduism related articles, and WP:RD/H is useful for asking general questions regarding Hinduism and other topics under Humanities. Not many editors have this page watchlisted. Abecedare (talk) 14:34, 26 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone who wants to make articles in wikipedia better, can use this utility to add diactrics (automatically) to many sanskrit words. See: [1] Automatically will not work, but semi-autocally may do. One has to check links etc to be proper. Also if there is some admin here - he can use this to make all names of pages in wikipedia realted to Vedas to be with diactrics in right spelling. This is automatical, so manual efforts are also needed. Maybe someone has a lot of time and want to volunteer - he can do this. "Utility: Automatically Add Diacritics to 94,000 Different Sanskrit Words!"[2]

--- Proposal : to merge both Hindu mythology portal and Hinduism into one. Mythology sounds wrong, because there are many mistakes calling asuras to be gods etc, while Vedas (Hinduism portal) say that asuras are demons. So mythology portal articles are to be verified to be in accordance with Vedas. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.133.243.223 (talk) 18:03, 9 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Article on caste/varna

[edit]

Should not the portal contain an article on caste/varna? The article Varna (Hinduism) exists but is not present on the portal homepage. Apoorv020 (talk) 14:14, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I would ask for help with this little article, as I know virtually nothing about it. It is created as a balance to the article about one of the main 'successors' to Sant Baljit Singh, Sirio Carrapa. It now looks like we have a third one Ram Singh Ji - any volunteers? This article was started by GurDass, who also started and regularly edits the Carrapa article. I am trying, amidst my other work, to get it off the ground. Anyone willing to foster it, please form an orderly line. Peridon (talk) 18:56, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this article is on AfD because I couldn't find any sources for notabiliy. Could some of the experts give a help, please?

Edits on Hindu topics

[edit]

It seems that perhaps many edits are being done in topics related to Hinduism by people who know not much about Hinduism, if anything at all. For example | this edit on page Siddhi. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 111.91.95.108 (talk) 00:56, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Good article nomination

[edit]

Hello, if any editors are interested, I have significantly reworked the Parashurama article and would be appreciative of feedback. Also if you are feeling especially generous, I would really be appreciative if someone could take it up for good article review. If not, no worries and great work everyone. Every year keeps getting more impressive than the last. Parsh (talk) 15:26, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ayurvedic scriptures a part of the vedic scriptures?

[edit]

For me it is strange that the Ayurvedic scriptures is not mentioned as Vedic scriptures, but my knowledge of vedic scriptures is very limited. Where among the vedic scriptures will the Ayurvedic scriptures fit in? Karcih (talk) 19:54, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sati (practice)

[edit]

Need some attention with the Sati (practice) right now. Compare the last two major edits, and take a look at talk page, you may know. OccultZone (talk) 12:59, 7 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Size of the upper box

[edit]

I think the upper box is currently too deep - compare today's version with a couple of years ago. If readers have to scroll down to see the "Show new selections" link and the top of the next layer of boxes, there is a danger that they will completely miss the interesting bits of the portal. -- John of Reading (talk) 14:06, 7 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Selected scripture

[edit]

Though many scriptures have been added to it by it never change. Also some of the Selected quotes from Vedas and Upnishads are part of scriptures not quotes. So any one can change it as soon as possible. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pradyumnas741 (talkcontribs) 11:16, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Request move page to portal:Sanatan Dharma

[edit]

As all the above mentioned data are more accurate in order that Hinduism refers to ideology primarily in Indian subcontinent while it's the universal ideology so it should be moved to Portal:Sanatan Dharma Anand 14:54, 24 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
