- 1990 - Cyclone Alibera, one of the longest-lasting storms on record in the south-west Indian Ocean, struck southeastern Madagascar, killing 46 people and causing the heaviest damage in Mananjary since 1925.
- 1993 - Cyclone Kina (pictured) moved through Fiji, causing $F170 million ($US110 million) in damage and becoming the most damaging in the nation.

- 1994 - Cyclone Rewa (pictured) reached its peak intensity east of Australia during its 28 day trek.
- 2014 - Cyclone Bejisa passed near Réunion island in the south-west Indian Ocean, causing one death and heavy agriculture damage.

- 2000 - Typhoon Soulik (pictured) reached peak intensity as a Category 3 typhoon in the Philippine Sea. It was one of the few West Pacific storms to span two calendar years.
- 2021 - The remnant low of Cyclone Chalane, which developed over the South-West Indian Ocean basin, emerged into the South Atlantic waters after crossing the African continent.

- 1938 - A rare off-season hurricane reached peak intensity northeast of the Lesser Antilles.
- 1999 - Tropical Depression Hilda developed northwest of the coast of Borneo; the system killed five people in Mayalsia.
- 2019 – Tropical Storm Pabuk (pictured) made landfall in Southern Thailand, killing 10 people, with damages of about US$157 million. Pabuk was the earliest-forming storm in both the Northwest Pacific and North Indian Ocean basins on record.

- 2005 - Cyclone Heta (pictured) reached its lowest pressure of 915 hPa (mbar). Heta caused $150 million in damage, mostly on American Samoa.
- 2013 - Tropical Storm Sonamu reached peak intensity north of Borneo. The name was retired thereafter due to its pronunciation as it sounded like tsunami.
- 2018 - Cyclone Ava struck eastern Madagascar, resulting in 51 deaths from its widespread floods.

- 2001 - With winds of 10-minute sustained winds of 195 km/h (120 mph), Cyclone Ando reaches peak intensity just to the east of Madagascar.
- 2006 - Tropical Storm Zeta (pictured) dissipated in the central Atlantic Ocean, ending the record-breaking 2005 Atlantic hurricane season.

- 1966 - Cyclone Denise struck Réunion, producing 1,825 mm (71.9 in) of rainfall at Foc-Foc. This is the highest 24 hour rainfall total worldwide.
- 1998 - Three cyclones (pictured) – Ron (right), Susan (center), and Katrina (left) – are active over the southern Pacific Ocean. The former two were among the strongest on record for the region, while the latter lasted 24 days while moving erratically around Australia.

- 1979 - Typhoon Alice (pictured) reached its peak with 215 km/h (130 mph) winds in the open Pacific Ocean. Alice caused extensive damage in the Marshall Islands.
- 2010 - Cyclone Edzani became a very intense tropical cyclone, the first in the basin in five years.

- 1880 - An unnamed tropical cyclone struck land near Onslow, Western Australia. The storm created an 8‑metre (26‑ft) storm tide and sank the ship Adalia, drowning some of the crew.
- 2006 - Cyclone Clare (pictured) struck Pilbara, Western Australia, causing heavy rainfall but minor damage.

- 1980 - Cyclone Amy struck the Western Australia coast as a Category 5 cyclone, causing over $2.7 million of damage.
- 1996 - Cyclone Bonita hit Madagascar and days later struck Mozambique, killing 42 people along its path.
- 2014 - Cyclone Ian (pictured) struck Tonga, causing $48 million in damage.

- 1979 - Typhoon Alice (pictured) reaches peak intensity as a Category 3 typhoon, causing extensive damages over in the Marshall Islands and in the Caroline Islands.
- 1983 - Cyclone Elinah passed through the Comoros islands between Madagascar and Mozambique. A large wave knocked 40 people in the water, killing 33 of them.

- 1988 - Typhoon Roy (pictured) moved through the Mariana Islands, causing heavy damage and destroying two homes.
- 1988 - Cyclone Anne struck New Caledonia, one of the strongest storms on record to strike the island; there were two deaths.

- 2015 - Cyclone Bansi (pictured) reached its peak strength as a very intense tropical cyclone – the highest category in the basin – to the east of Madagascar.

- 1948 - Typhoon Karen intensifies into a super typhoon to the north of Palau, making it the earliest super typhoon to form in the Northwest Pacific basin.
- 2012 - Subtropical Depression Dando (pictured) made a rare landfall in southern Mozambique, washing away bridges in South Africa. The storm killed 10 people.

- 1971 - Cyclone Ada hit the Whitsunday Islands off the Queensland coast. Ada killed 14 people and caused $390 million in damage.
- 1998 - A tropical depression struck Mozambique and moved southward through the country; heavy rainfall and landslides caused 87 deaths.
- 1985 - Cyclone Eric (pictured) moved through Fiji at peak intensity, killing 25 people and causing $40 million in damage.

- 1978 - Subtropical Storm One formed to the east of Puerto Rico, becoming one of two subtropical cyclones to form in the North Atlantic in the month of January.
- 2015 - Cyclone Chedza (pictured) reaches its secondary peak as a severe tropical storm, after causing 80 fatalities and US$40 million damages in Madagascar.

- 2014 - Tropical Storm Lingling (pictured) starts to weaken from its peak as it causes major damages in southern Philippines, causing about 70 deaths.

- 2002 - Cyclone Dina reached its peak intensity with winds of 215 km/h (130 mph) in the South-West Indian Ocean. It later struck Mauritius and Réunion, dropping 2,102 mm (82.8 in) of rainfall on the latter island. Dina killed 15 people along its track and left US$287 million in damage.
- 2009 - Cyclone Fanele (pictured) reaches peak intensity as a Category 4 tropical cyclone and makes landfall over the western area of Madagascar. Fanele killed 10 people and major damages.
- 2022 - Tropical Storm Ana forms in the South-West Indian Ocean, marking the latest start to a South-West Indian Ocean cyclone season in recorded history. Ana went on to cause 115 fatalities in Madagascar, Malawi, and Mozambique.

- 1918 - The 1918 Mackay cyclone hit Mackay, Queensland, Australia, when its central pressure was about 932 hPa (mbar). The storm killed 30 people.
- 1976 - Cyclone Danae struck northeastern Madagascar, killing 50 people across the country.
- 2009 - Cyclone Fanele (pictured) made landfall on western Madagascar while the country was experiencing political strife, prompting United Nations agencies to respond to storm damage.

- 1997 - Cyclone Pancho-Helinda reached its peak with a central pressure of 925 hPa (mbar) in the eastern Indian Ocean.
- 2013 - Cyclone Oswald (flooding pictured) weakened into a tropical low, but its remnants brought torrential rainfall of over 1,000 mm (39 in) to eastern Australia. The rains caused widespread flooding that left US$2.28 billion in damage and six deaths.

- 2005 - Cyclone Ernest (pictured) struck southwestern Madagascar, killing 78 people.
- 2020 - Subtropical Storm Kurumí develops off the coast of southern Brazil, with associated floods and mudslides killing 70 people.
- 2021 - Cyclone Eloise moved ashore Mozambique, and across southeastern Africa the storm killed 27 people.

- 1974 - Cyclone Wanda hit Queensland, bringing heavy rainfall and floods to the Brisbane area. Wanda killed 16 people and caused over $200 million of damage.
- 1997 - Cyclone Gretelle (pictured) struck southeastern Madagascar with 220 km/h (140 mph) winds, which produced floods 16 m (52 ft) deep in some places. About 80,000 people were left homeless, and many were isolated after roads were damaged. The storm killed 152 people and left US$50 million in damage to the country.
- 2012 - Cyclone Funso reached peak intensity in the Mozambique Channel. Its large size caused 40 deaths, including 15 related to a shipwreck.

- 1980 - Cyclone Hyacinthe reached its peak intensity with 130 km/h (80 mph) winds while performing a cyclonic loop to the west of Réunion. Hyacinthe caused a total of over 5700 mm (220 in) of rain over the island, and also became the wettest tropical cyclone on record.

- 2004 - Cyclone Elita formed west of Madagascar, and eventually made three landfalls on the island. Heavy rainfall killed 33 people.
- 2008 - Cyclone Gene (pictured) developed northeast of Fiji, where it later drops heavy rainfall and causes eight deaths.

- 2011 - Cyclone Wilma brushed the northern coast of New Zealand, where it caused heavy rainfall and flooding.

- 1984 - Tropical Storm Domoina struck southeastern Mozambique and later moved into South Africa. Along its path, the storm killed 242 people and left US$200 million in damage.
- 1989 - Cyclone Firinga (pictured) passed very close to Réunion at its peak intensity with 165 km/h (105 mph) winds, causing $157 million in damage and 10 deaths.

- 1991 - A cargo ship went missing in the south-west Indian Ocean during Cyclone Bella, with 36 people onboard.
- 1992 - Hurricane Ekeka (pictured) reached hurricane strength to the south of Hawaii, at a latitude of 6° N. This makes Ekeka the most southerly hurricane on record, in either the Atlantic Ocean or the Pacific Ocean.
- 2016 - Cyclone Stan makes landfall over Western Australia. Stan's remnants caused record breaking rainfall over South Australia.

- 1994 - Cyclone Geralda (pictured) reached its peak intensity with 270 km/h (165 mph) winds. Geralda struck Madagascar soon after, killing 200 and leaving half a million people homeless.
- 2021 - Cyclone Ana impacts Fiji, killing only 1 person and left 5 people missing. It was one of three cyclones to impact Fiji within January of 2021.
