- 2022 Paris shooting
  - Three people are killed and four others are injured in a mass shooting at a Kurdish community center in Paris, France. The perpetrator, a 69-year-old Frenchman, is arrested. (BBC News)

- A police officer is killed and ten other people are injured when two Pakistani Taliban insurgents blow themselves up in a car outside a police station in Islamabad, Pakistan. (AP)

Late December 2022 North American winter storm
- At least 200 million people, two-thirds of the population of the United States, are under weather warning advisories, with the state of New York issuing a travel ban due to extreme temperatures. 1.5 million people across the country are left without power and at least 28 people are killed as a result of the storm. Capital punishment in Zambia
- Zambia abolishes the death penalty effective immediately. (AFP via The Bangkok Post)
French serial killer Charles Sobhraj, who received a life sentence in Nepal for murdering 12 tourists between 1963 and 1976, and suspected of murdering also 18 other people, is released from prison due to his old age and good behaviour in accordance with a Supreme Court order.
