Pitambar Acharya
Pitambar Acharya (born: January 15, 1965) is the Senior Advocate at the Orissa High Court and is the present Advocate General of Orissa.[1][2][3]
Career
[edit]He completed his M.A. from Utkal University in 1987.During his college career he was elected President of the B.J.B. College Students' Union in 1984 and President of the Utkal University Law College Students' Union in 1987. He was also the General Secretary of the Buxi Jagabandhu Bidyadhar College Students' Union in 1982[4]. His legal career began in 1991 when he joined the High Court Bar as an associate advocate under the mentorship of Mr. Gangadhar Rath, a former Advocate General of Orissa. Sri Acharya was designated as a Senior Advocate in 2011. Since then he has conducted over 10,000 cases of various legal domains including constitutional, Civil, Criminal, Corporate and Banking Laws. He fought the case before the Orissa High Court for re-opening of Ratna Bhandar of Jagannath Temple, Puri[5].
Sri Acharya has been a standing counsel for several organizations, including the State Election Commission of Orissa, the Orissa Legislative Assembly. He has represented Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd., Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd., and GAIL India Ltd.[6] He contested the 2019 General Assembly Election from Hinjili Assembly constituency as the BJP candidate against former Chief minister Naveen Patnaik and was defeated by a reduced margin.[7] He also served as the State Vice President, Spokesperson and State Head for Legal & RTI Services of Bharatiya Janata Party Odisha[8]. He was elected to the Orissa State Bar Council in 2008 till 2013. He assumed the post of the Advocate General of Odisha on 19 July 2024.[9][10]

[edit]- Received "Sri Ramchandra Bhanja Deo" Gold Medal and Vice-Chancellor's Cup from Utkal University for his excellence in debate and oratory.[1]
- Received "Odisha Keshari Samman-2008" for outstanding contribution to law.
- Awarded with "Nyayajyoti Samman,2012" by Samma Institute of Urdu Education,
- Received the "Chelitola Samman" from chelitola cultural Academy branch of Sarala sahitya Sansad for his outstanding contribution towards law in 2024.
