Phir Ussi Mod Par (English: "Back to Square One") is a Hindi film directed by Lekh Tandon.[1][2]
The film tackles the practice of triple talaq, a tradition in Islam where a husband pronounces three repudiations at once in order to legally divorce his wife. This practice is a frequent subject in social and media discussions, generating ongoing public debate. The film delves into this controversial subject, arguing that there are negative consequences of the prevalent practice of triple talaq. The film juxtaposes social and religious perspectives on the tradition with modern society norms, asserting that personal gain often misinterprets and manipulates the practice of triple talaq, overshadowing its intended ethical and religious context.
Phir Ussi Mod Par premiered at the Berlin Film Festival on 08 March 2019[3] to a full audience and received a positive response. It was produced by Trinetra, Kanika, and Anshula Bajpai under their banner, Kanika Multiscope (KMPL).
Plot
[edit]In the film, Naaz is pregnant when she receives triple talaq from her husband, Shaheed. This leads her to attempt suicide. She is rescued by Rasheed who, according to the Holy Quran, is a righteous man. He marries her and offers her a fresh start. Later in life, when Naaz encounters another triple talaq situation, she decides to confront it directly rather than accept it passively.
