Persephone (born August 3, 2001) is an American professional wrestler working for the Mexican professional wrestling promotion Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), portraying a ruda ("Bad girl") wrestling character. She previously performed as Perse and Black Widow. Previously, Persephone wrestled under a mask, which is common in lucha libre.[1] In 2023, however, she voluntarily removed her mask, which is very unusual.[2]

Career

[edit]

Persephone was raised in Ciudad Juárez and has been wrestling since August 2016. She previously wrestled in the rival promotion Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (AAA).[3]

In CMLL, Persephone notably has had a feud with Tessa Blanchard and generally portrays a rudo, which is, an evil character, as opposed to the tecnicos who are the good guys.[4][5] Surprisingly, she won the 2024 Campeonato de Amazonas (the title for the best female wrestler in CMLL) after defeating veteran Zeuxis in the finals on October 18, 2024.[6]

Personal life

[edit]

In addition to wrestling, Persephone also holds a bachelor's degree in kinesiology.[3]
