The Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) is a pro-Palestinian, anti-Zionist, socialist, and anti-imperialist organization with chapters across North America and Europe.[1] The group has participated in political actions with the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL), a communist party in the United States, and the ANSWER Coalition.[1][2][3][4] It is mainly composed of Palestinian and Arab youth.[1][5]
According to Giving Compass, a website that provides information about nonprofit organizations to prospective donors, PYM was founded in 1982.[6]
PYM has participated in the ongoing Israel-Hamas war protests in the United States, including the 2024 Columbia University occupation[7][8][9] and the July 2024 protest in Washington D.C.[10] alongside various other groups, and has taken an approach compared to that of New York City anti-Zionist group Within Our Lifetime (WOL), in refusing to work within the Democratic Party.[11]
Notably, in 2024 PYM participated in the creation of the first English translation of Wisam Rafeedie's novel The Trinity of Fundamentals, which discusses Palestinian resistance. Rafeedie is member of the PFLP, and a former Palestinian prisoner who was held in Israel.[5][12]
