The Operation Pagar Betis (Indonesia: Operasi Pagar Betis) was an millitary counter-insurgent operations in West Java conducted by Indonesian Army under command Abdul Haris Nasution. The operation aimed to blockade Darul Islam main base and ended the rebellion. After thirty years along, finally Kartosoerwijo surrendered and captured by Siliwangi divison and ended the Indonesia Islamic rebellion.
Background
[edit]In 7 August 1949, Darul Islam proclamated their territories in West Java and they reinforced their military power and started the rebellion in West Java. However TNI response to suppresed rebellion with pushed back the insurgent power but failed,to effectively suppresed this rebellion they launched the blockade operations combine with pagar betis tactics so this operation called "Operasi Pagar Betis".[1]
Operation
[edit]After they launched this Operation,Indonesian Army tried to comforted and corporated with civilians in West Java, the civilians help soldiers like build military post and also patrol the enemy guerilla with soldiers. However with civilian corporation they succeeded to build the defense post and gave the strong message that the civilians was not alone but corporated with soldiers.[2]
After that they succeeded to blockade Darul Islam main base also make the guerilla movement was slow and easily captured by the patrol forces.[3] And in 1962 the Kartosoewirjo decided to surrendered after there is no hope to countered this operations and the operation ended with Indonesian military success.[4]
Aftermath
[edit]However this operation resulted in Indonesian Military Success. But this operation showed how important to removed ideological thing in rebellion with corporation and comforted with civilians and the civilians decided to stop Darul Islam forces and supported Indonesian Soldiers.[5]
