Ole ter Haar Romeny (born 20 June 2000) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as a forward for EFL Championship club Oxford United.

Club career

[edit]

NEC

[edit]

Romeny started playing football at age 8 at DVOL in Lent before moving to the youth academy of NEC Nijmegen.[2] In the winter of 2018, he was promoted to the first-team.[3] Under new coach Pepijn Lijnders, he became a regular part of the squad.[4] On 19 January 2018, he made his debut in a 2–3 away defeat to Almere City, replacing his childhood friend Ferdi Kadıoğlu in the 84th minute. In injury time, he had to leave the field after being sent off by referee Kevin Blom.[5] With that, he became the youngest player ever in the Eerste Divisie to receive a red card in his debut. The card was later dismissed after NEC filed a complaint and won the appeal.[6]

Loan to Willem II

[edit]

On 30 September 2020, Romeny signed for Eredivisie club Willem II on a season-long loan, with the option of a permanent transfer.[7]

Emmen

[edit]

On 27 January 2022, Romeny signed with Emmen for a 1.5-year term.[8]

Utrecht

[edit]

On 13 June 2023, Romeny joined Utrecht on a three-season deal.[9]

Oxford United

[edit]

On 5 January 2025, Romeny signed for EFL Championship side Oxford United on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee.[10][11]

International career

[edit]

Romeny played one international match for the Netherlands national under-15 and under-18 teams.[12]

In November 2024, Romeny confirmed that he had decided to represent Indonesia at the international level.[13]

Personal life

[edit]

His maternal grandmother was born in Medan, North Sumatra, when it was called the Dutch East Indies,[14] and Romeny is therefore eligible to represent for Indonesia at the international level.[15]
