NGC 7177 is a barred spiral galaxy in the constellation of Pegasus. Its velocity with respect to the cosmic microwave background for is 801±24 km/s, which corresponds to a Hubble distance of 38.6 ± 2.9 Mly (11.82 ± 0.90 Mpc).[1] However, 12 non-redshift measurements give a much farther distance of 86.49 ± 10.33 Mly (26.517 ± 3.166 Mpc).[2] It was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel on 15 October 1784.[3]

The SIMBAD database lists NGC 7177 as a LINER galaxy, i.e. a galaxy whose nucleus has an emission spectrum characterized by broad lines of weakly ionized atoms.[4]
