The Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation (MNF) named after the first President of Tanzania, was established in June 1996. It is an intellectually and politically independent non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Tanzania. The vision is for the Foundation to become a "regional centre of excellence and advocate in the promotion of peace, unity and people-centered development in Africa and the world through justice for all." The mission is to achieve this through research, policy advice, consultative exchanges and partnerships. In all this, the Foundation's work is based on Mwalimu Nyerere's belief in the fundamental principle that all humanity, regardless of their differences, is the purpose and justification for the existence of society and people are fundamental to any process of development. Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation Endowment Fund

[edit]

In December 2023, the Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation entered into an agreement with Greyhorse Clearinghouse Limited[1] to establish an endowment fund of $3 million. Greyhorse, under the leadership of its founder and executive chairman Rahim Thawer, contributed to the fund and assumed trusteeship responsibilities.[2][3]

The primary objective of this agreement is to create an endowment fund for nonprofit institutions, which will serve as a financial resource to support various community groups and initiatives both within Tanzania and internationally. The distribution of these charitable funds will be specifically directed towards the Children Education Fund, Teachers Fund, and Pan African Young Leaders fellowship virtual programme.[2][3]
