Montbovon railway station (French: Gare de Montbovon), is a railway station in the municipality of Haut-Intyamon, in the Swiss canton of Fribourg. It is the terminus station on the 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in) metre gauge Palézieux–Bulle–Montbovon railway line of Transports publics Fribourgeois and an intermediate stop on the Montreux–Lenk im Simmental line of Montreux Oberland Bernois Railway.
History
[edit]The station building was built in 1903 by Ody & Fils by the design of the architects Broillet & Wulffleff[4]. The station was opened by the Chemins de fer électriques de la Gruyère at the same time as the Tour-de-Trême to Montbovon section of the Palézieux-Bulle-Montbovon line, on 23 July 1903[5].The Les Avants to Montbovon section of the MOB line was inaugurated a few months later, on 10 October 1903[6][7]. Due to its high level of use and its role at the junction of two strategic metre gauge lines, the station underwent a major renovation between 2017 and 2019[8]. In order to bring the station's infrastructure into compliance with the LHand law on equality for disabled people, a new underpass has been built under the station, leading to the platforms via gently sloping ramps. The platforms have been extended to 214 and 259 metres, raised and fitted with canopies to protect passengers while they wait in the station[9][10]. The work is estimated to cost 32 million Swiss francs, of which 26 million for Transports publics fribourgeois and 6 million for Montreux Oberland Bernois Railway[11].
Services
[edit]As of the December 2023 timetable change,[update] the following services stop at Montbovon:[12][13]
- RER Fribourg S50: hourly service between Palézieux and Montbovon.
- GoldenPass Express: 4 daily round-trips between Montreux and Interlaken Ost.
- Panorama Express/Regio: half-hourly service during peak hours or hourly service between Montreux and Château-d'Oex and hourly service to Zweisimmen.
