Meng Yuan (Chinese: 梦圆; lit. 'Fulfilled dream'),[1] nicknamed Paule, is a male giant panda[2] born on 31 August 2019, in the Berlin Zoo in Germany.[3] Its parents are Sichuan-born[4] Jiao Qing and Meng Meng.[5] They are on lease from China for a provisional period of 15 years.[6]
Meng Yuan and its twin Meng Xiang were the first giant pandas ever born in Germany.[7] Meng Yuan is 48 minutes younger than Meng Xiang and is known for its mischievous, inquisitive nature.[8]
In December 2023, the two pandas were sent to China.[9] Their handover was contractually agreed to between Germany and China, but was delayed by the pandemic.[9]
