Mecynothrips is a genus of thrips in the family Phlaeothripidae,[1][2] first described by Richard Siddoway Bagnall in 1908.[1][3] The type species is Mecynothrips wallacei Bagnall, 1908.[1]
Two of the Australian species are found only in rainforests in northern Queensland (Mecynothrips acanthus, and Mecynothrips wallacei).[4] but the third Australian species, M.hardyi lives on the dead leaves of Acacia harpophylla in arid parts of southern Queensland.[4]
