Md. Nazrul Islam (ambassador to Bahrain)
Md. Nazrul Islam is a Bangladeshi diplomat and former ambassador of Bangladesh to Bahrain.[1] He is an additional foreign secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Early life
[edit]Islam completed his bachelor's and master's in economics from the University of Dhaka.[2] He did his PhD at the University of New England (Australia) in water policy and governance.[2][3]
Career
[edit]Islam joined the foreign service of the Bangladesh Civil Service in 1995.[2]
From 2002 to 2003, Islam was the first secretary at the Embassy of Bangladesh in Iraq.[2]
Islam served at the Embassy of Bangladesh to South Korea from 1999 to 2002.[2] From 2004 to 2006, he was the director (SAARC and BIMSTEC) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.[2]
Islam was a counselor at the Bangladesh High Commission to Australia from 2007 to 2010.[2] From 2011 to 2014, Islam was the director general of parliamentary affairs and the director general of West and Central Asia at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.[2] In July 2014, he was promoted to a grade 3 officer.[4]
From July 2014 to June 2015, Islam was the in-charge of the Bangladesh embassy in Lebanon.[2] He had taken over from Ambassador AFM Gousal Azam Sarker who had faced allegations of mismanagement and was withdrawn from the embassy.[5]
From 2015 to 2019, Islam was the deputy permanent representative to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.[2] From July 2015 to February 2020, he was the deputy chief of mission at the Embassy of Bangladesh to Saudi Arabia.[2][6] He was the ambassador of Bangladesh to the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition from October 2018 to November 2019.[2] He was then appointed the ambassador of Bangladesh to the Kingdom of Bahrain.[7]
Islam returned from Bahrain on 7 September 2023 and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as an additional foreign secretary.[2]
Personal life
[edit]Islam is married to Najmun Nahar Habib.[2]
