[edit]Materialists, written and directed by Celine Song, was announced in February 2024, with producers Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler of Killer Films, and David Hinojosa of 2AM. Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal were set to star in the film. In the same month, Deadline reported the producers were looking for financiers and A24 was attached as their international sales agent and local distributor, taking the movie to find investors in the European Film Market.[3]
Two weeks later, Deadline reported that Sony Pictures, in an eight-figure deal, had acquired the international rights to the film excluding Russia, China and Japan.[4][5]
Principal photography then began on April 29, 2024, in New York City and wrapped filming on June 6.[6][7][8] In May 2024, Zoë Winters, Dasha Nekrasova, Louisa Jacobson, Fernando Belo and Marin Ireland had been announced to have joined the cast.[9]
