Mary E. Odde is an American politician.[1] Mary Ellis (McBeath) Odde, born February 18, 1918, died September 4, 1990 was the oldest of five children born to Charles C. McBeath, a ranch foreman, and Rebecca A. “Mamie” (Crawford) McBeath, a teacher. Mary was born in Crawford Texas and graduated from high school in Littleton CO in 1935. Mary’s family then moved to a ranch outside of Thermopolis WY, at which time she attended and graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in Education, and her siblings, J. Dureen (Baker), B. Charles McBeath, Dorothy M. (Phinney), and Ruth McBeath all went on to graduate from Hot Springs County High School. Mary then earned her master’s degree in teaching from Idaho State University.
Mary lived her adult life in Wyoming, tirelessly working as a teacher in Hot Springs County, and then Shoshoni for 24 years, and later for the Wyoming Education Association working her way up to president. From 1980-1990 she was elected and served five terms in the Wyoming House of Representatives, where as a Representative from Fremont County she was on the Judiciary Committee and chaired the subcommittee on children and family.[1][2]
Personal Life:
Mary married Harold Odde in 1941 in Cheyenne. They had a son who died in infancy and a daughter, Jo, who married Jim Hartman, followed by six grandchildren.
