Marty Bass

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Marty Bass (born April 18, 1953) is a television news personality and weather man for WJZ 13 in Baltimore, Maryland.

Marty arrived at WJZ in 1977 and in 1983 launched the Eyewitness News Morning Edition with Oprah Winfrey as co-anchor.

From 1984-2014, Marty was paired with anchor Don Scott. Many Marylanders simply knew the broadcast as "Don and Marty."

Bass served as co-anchor of WJZ's morning program until 2018, holding the Baltimore TV record, at the time, as the longest-tenured anchor of the same broadcast. He has since been surpassed by colleague Denise Koch who has co-anchored the stations 6 p.m. broadcast since 1988.

Marty is now the feature reporter for WJZ News @9.

For 25 years (1987-2012) Bass was also part of "The Laurie DeYoung Morning Show" on WPOC-FM.

In late 1985, Bass was arrested for soliciting a prostitute.[1] On December 4, 1985, Bass solicited a female undercover police officer in Baltimore's Patterson Park. The undercover cop testified Bass requested oral sex. Bass reportedly countered that he asked to "get into her head."[2] Bass was suspended from WJZ 13 until early 1986.[citation needed]

Bass lives in Brooklandville, Maryland, with his wife, Sharon, and their two children.[3][full citation needed]
