He prepared for a career in the diplomatic service at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy[2] and his early assignments included stints in Ecuador and Hungary and in Rome in the Section for General Affairs of the Secretariat of State.[1]

During Pope Francis' visit to the Philippines and the United States in 2015, his simultaneous interpretation into English was highly commended by the public.[3][2][4] In September 2015 Miles was awarded the Gibraltar Medallion of Distinction.[5]
