Moses Robert McGeorge, known professionally as M Dot R, is an English rapper, born and raised in Sheppey, known for his prolific use of Jamaican Patois.[1][2][3][4] He is associated with dancehall, rap, and reggae.[5] He is the subject of a documentary called White Lion.[6] As of February 2022[update], White Lion is in post-production.[citation needed][needs update]
Moses gained attention on the social media platform TikTok for the track "Turn Red", where he is seen lip-syncing whilst performing dances to the song in various locations, sometimes collaborating with celebrities of the platform. He has also appeared on several podcasts and his song has been used as viral audio on other social medias.[7]
His song "Turn Red" has gained 6.1 million views on YouTube,[8] with his newest release with Caribbean rapper "Fully Bad" titled "Dem Na Bad" has reached over 150 thousand views.

McGeorge grew up in Sheerness on the Isle of Sheppey, Kent. His parents have Irish and Scottish heritage. Although he is not of Jamaican descent, he has expressed great affinity for Jamaica, its culture and people.[9] He had a passion for music since he was a child, and would often perform in private.[3] At the age of nine, he was introduced to Patois via his older sister's partner, who was from Saint Vincent.[7] At the age of ten, he began rapping, and by age 14 was performing on pirate radio stations and nightclubs. He has described his childhood as "good" although "bad things [... that] definitely stayed in [his] mind" occurred, his mother was addicted to amphetamines, which led to a home where food was not always available. In an interview, he recounted that he would oftentimes go to sleep hungry. During an altercation with his older brother, who was addicted to heroin, McGeorge was stabbed in his arm when he was 14.[10][9] He has stated that he did not enjoy school, and was expelled from his school at age 15. Instead, he delivered newspapers full-time and did not complete his GCSE certificate. He fell into doing petty crimes, causing him to eventually move away from Kent.[9]
He moved to Lewisham, London at age 18, where he was exposed to the emerging grime scene, and although influential, was not something he pursued. Instead, he favored dancehall, describing himself as a "melody guy". His time in London allowed him to meet others interested in the dancehall and reggae industry, due in large part to the considerable Jamaican diaspora in London.[3][9] He described that he felt a strong sense of belonging with the black community in London, stating "it was just nice to be around people who dressed like me, liked the same music" and that he quickly made friends.[9] McGeorge also traveled intermittently to the Caribbean and Jamaica since he was around 16.[7] He later moved back to Sheerness, where he further refined his style.[3] His stage name is unrelated to fellow artist M-Dot, it is instead based off of a trend wherein an artist would shorten their first name to a single letter with the suffix "-Dot", along with his initials of "MR".[9] Following his first viral song, a freestyle called "100 Gyal" in 2017, McGeorge stated that he became depressed. He stated that it was "put [...] out as kind of a joke", and perceived that people mocked him rather than genuinely appreciating his music. Visiting Jamaica soon after prevented him from quitting music entirely, as he was featured on a segment of Smile Jamaica where he won against two other artists by a public vote.[7][9]
Mainstream success (2023 onward)
[edit]Following the sudden and viral success of the song Turn Red, McGeorge signed to Sony Music.[7] In January 2024, American rapper Snoop Dogg announced a single where McGeorge is a feature.[11]
