Long Live The Black Parade[a] is an upcoming concert tour by American rock band My Chemical Romance, in celebration of their third studio album The Black Parade (2006). It was announced on November 12, 2024, following the band's performance at When We Were Young 2024, and will feature The Black Parade played in its entirety. The tour is set to begin on July 11, 2025 in Seattle, and conclude on September 13 in Tampa that same year. There will be a total of ten shows, most of which will take place at Major League Baseball stadiums. All of the shows will feature a unique opening act, such as Evanescence and 100 gecs.
Background and history
[edit]In 2006, My Chemical Romance released their third studio album, The Black Parade (2006).[2] The album was a critical and commercial success, going on to be certified 4x Platinum by the RIAA,[2] as well as being listed as one of Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.[2][3] The album was supported by a concert tour that began on February 22, 2007,[4] where the band would play the album in its entirety[5] as the "Black Parade", an alter-ego band that the album was named after.[6] They played as the Black Parade alter-ego until the tours final show on October 24, 2007, when the alter-ego was killed off.[7] On October 19 and 20, 2024, My Chemical Romance headlined the When We Were Young festival, where they performed The Black Parade in its entirety for the first time since 2007.[2] It also marked the first time that several songs from The Black Parade, such as "Disenchanted" and "Dead!", had been performed live in over a decade.[8]
On November 11, 2024, the band posted a teaser image on their Instagram page, depicting the skyline of a white city with pieces of confetti floating around, with the letters KCR arranged in a new logo.[9] The post also had the caption "If you could be anything, what would you be?".[2] The teaser image generated fan speculation, due to it being unclear what exactly it was alluding to. Many drew connections between the image and My Chemical Romance's scrapped fifth album, The Paper Kingdom, and believed that the teaser was hinting towards the release of new music from the band, including the completed version of that album.[9][10]
The day after the teaser was posted,[2] My Chemical Romance announced the Long Live The Black Parade tour. Ten shows across North America were announced, spanning across 2025;[2][11] most of the shows will take place at Major League Baseball stadiums.[11] During the tour, My Chemical Romance is set to perform the entirety of The Black Parade, with each date having a unique opening act (e.g. Evanescence, 100 gecs).[12][13] Tickets are set to go on sale on November 15, 2024.[14][13]
The band also released a teaser trailer when announcing the tour,[15][16][17] which features a dictator walking out onto a balcony to a cheering crowd in a white-colored dystopian city.[17][18][13] The description of the trailer references the time that had passed since the last appearance of the Black Parade alter-ego, which has since become labeled as "His Grand Immortal Dictator's National Band". It also describes the tour as the Black Parade's "work privilege [being] ceremoniously reinstated," allowing for it to celebrate the culture and achievements of a fictional dictatorship known as Draag.[16][13]
