North Macedonia
[edit]The following websites are part of a network of fake news sites registered in North Macedonia for profit motives between the 2016 and 2020 US Presidential Election campaigns.
A 2018 report by Buzzfeed News linked the owners of an American fake news website, Liberty Writers News, to a Macedonian media attorney who operated numerous "fake news" websites during the six month lead-up to the 2016 Presidential Election. As of 2018, the governments of the United States and "at least two Western European countries" were investigating a possible connection between the Macedonian fake news sites and the Internet Research Agency, as an IRA employee was known to visit North Macedonia in 2015.[25]
