Lahore 1947 is an upcoming Hindi-language period action film directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan. Set against the backdrop of the partition of India in 1947, the film stars Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta.[2][3] The film's music composed is by A. R. Rahman.
Based on Asghar Wajahat's play Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya O Jamyai Ni' (“One who has not seen Lahore has not been born”),[4] the film went on floors in February 2024 and was completed by August 2024.[5] Initially planned to release on 26 January 2025, it is now pushed to June 2025 due to post-production works.[6][4]
Plot
[edit]Lahore 1947 is set during the partition of India in 1947 and follows the story of a Muslim family that migrates from Lucknow to Lahore. Upon their arrival, they are allocated a haveli (mansion) that was vacated by a Hindu family fleeing the area due to the partition. The plot thickens when the family discovers an elderly Hindu woman still residing in the haveli. This unexpected encounter leads to rising tensions and complex emotional dynamics as the characters navigate their new reality amidst the backdrop of one of the most tumultuous periods in Indian history.[5]

Production
[edit]The film is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions. The production of the film involved extensive research to accurately depict the historical period of the partition. The sets were meticulously designed to recreate the streets and atmosphere of Lahore during the 1940s. The film marks the reunion of Rajkumar Santoshi with Aamir Khan and Sunny Deol, who have previously collaborated on successful projects.[7]
Soundtrack
