Kuzman Šapkarev Primary School (alternative spelling: Kuzman Shapkarev or Kuzman Šapkarev; Macedonian: ОУ „Кузман Шапкарев“) is a state-owned primary school in the suburb of Dračevo (Macedonian: Драчево). It is located 10 km (6.2 mi) south from the downtown of Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia.

The school was established in 1971. It first opened its doors on January 1, 1972, when two older schools, Rayko Zhinzifov Primary School and Kliment Ohridski Primary School, became overloaded due to newcomers to the suburb after the 1963 Skopje earthquake. The Kuzman Šapkarev Primary School building was renovated in 2006–2011.[1] The school's facilities include a kitchen, a sports hall, and a dentist office.

Kuzman Šapkarev Primary School is named after an ethnographer, folklorist, and textbook writer Kuzman Shapkarev. On March 18, the date of Shapkarev's death, the school holds a celebration that includes a ceremony, sport and cultural events.

The students of the school regularly participate in regional math competitions[2], quizzes, national chemistry competitions,[3] history, and Macedonian language competitions,[4] among other events. The teachers actively promote the school and student involvement.[how?] The most active sports clubs are handball and basketball.

In 2007, the school started choosing the laureate of the graduating class, a tradition that continues until today. Laureates from past years include:

  • Angela-Aleksandra Ivanovikj (2007)
  • Karolina Ilievska (2008)
  • Filip Simeski (2009)
  • Martin Bibovski (2010)
  • Jovana Sajkovska (2011)
