Kishkindha Kaandam (transl. Kishkindha Chapter) is a 2024 Indian Malayalam-language psychological mystery thriller film directed by Dinjith Ayyathan and written by Bahul Ramesh.[2][3] The film stars Asif Ali, Vijayaraghavan, and Aparna Balamurali.[4][5] The story takes place in monkeys inhabited Kallepathi reserve forest where ex-military Appupilla and his son Ajayachandran, a forest officer, resides. The film opened to critical acclaim and became a commercial success at box-office.[6]
Synopsis
[edit]A retired army officer's gun goes missing, prompting his son's new wife to investigate. As she uncovers family secrets, including the mysterious disappearance of her husband’s son, the authorities are drawn in. A monkey skeleton is found near the officer’s property, shot three years earlier, and a photographer captures a monkey holding the missing gun. The revelations deepen the mystery, connecting the missing firearm to the family's dark past.

Critical response
[edit]The film received highly positive reviews from critics and audience. S. R. Praveen of The Hindu wrote: "A flawless screenplay drives this intriguing mystery drama".[11]
Anandu Suresh of The Indian Express rated the film 4 out of 5 stars and reviewed "Asif Ali, Aparna Balamurali-starrer is a brilliantly written, skillfully crafted mystery drama".[12]
Vivek Santhosh of The New Indian Express rated the film 4/5 and wrote: "A sublime and poignant mystery bolstered by terrific performances".[13]
Anjana George of The Times Of India rated the film 3.5 out of 5 stars and wrote: "Asif Ali and Vijayaraghavan bring depth to this intense psychological drama".[14]
