Kenshūi Tendō Dokuta (研修医 天堂独太, Resident Doctor Dokuta Tendo) is an adventure game for the Nintendo DS set in a hospital. It was released as one of the system's 12 launch titles in Japan.
A sequel, LifeSigns: Surgical Unit, was released in 2005 and was later localized.
Plot
[edit]Dokuta Tendo is a trainee who still lacks both skill and knowledge, but he is more motivated than anyone else.[2]
Gameplay
[edit]The game is separated into four separate chapters, dealing with the main story in an episodic format. Each chapter contains one or more of the following elements:
Exploring
[edit]The first type of gameplay is common to all Japanese adventure games. The main character, Tendo, explores an area, conversing with other people and furthering the story.[3]
Diagnoses
[edit]When someone is sick or injured, the player may need to diagnose the patient and decide what is wrong with them.[4]
Persuasion
[edit]Starting in the second chapter, the player must fill the gaps in the hearts of people which are refusing to cooperate with Dokuta. [5]
Surgery
[edit]After diagnosing a patient, the player must perform surgery on them. During the surgery phase of the game, the player must perform a series of simple steps, one at a time, from disinfecting an area and making an incision, to the surgery itself, and finally closing the patient up. Unlike its sequel and Trauma Center, there is no time limit and it is less action oriented.[6]
Reception
[edit]Famitsu scored the game a 29 out of 40 across 4 reviews.[7]
The game sold about 90,000 copies.[8]
