Karachi Biennale

The Karachi Biennale is a large-scale international contemporary art exhibition, which has been held at various locations in Karachi, Pakistan, every two to three years since 2017.[1]

First Karachi Biennale

Amin Gulgee was the chief curator for the first ever Biennale.[2]

Second Karachi Biennale

The second edition of Karachi Bien­nale (KB19) was held from 26 October till 12 November 2019. The event featured works from 98 artists from 16 countries.[3]

In a controversial move, Adeela Suleman's exhibition with 440 headstones titled 'The Killing Fields of Karachi' on display at Frere Hall was destroyed by unnamed men.[4][5]

Third Karachi Biennale

The third edition of Karachi Bien­nale (KB22) was held between 31 October to 13 November 2022. More than 40 artists including Marc Lee, Dennis Rudolph, Shezad Dawood and Amin Gulgee, representing more than 13 countries took part in the event.[6][7][8]

The nine venues at which the Biennale was held included the Jamshed Memorial Hall, Hamid Market, the VM Art Gallery, the Sambara Art Gallery, the Alliance Française, NJV School, the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, Institute of Business Administration (city campus) and NED University (city campus).[9][10]

Fourth Karachi Biennale

The fourth edition of Karachi Biennale (KB24) was held between 27 October to 10 November 2024.[11] Over 40 artists including Anna Konik, Bita Razavi, Mahreen Zuberi and Tino Sehgal from 10 countries took part in the event. The five venues included two public parks — Frere Hall and Bagh Ibne Qasim as well as the Sambara Art Gallery, Alliance Française and NED University (city campus).[12]
