Biography

[edit]

July Jones was born in Ljubljana, but has lived abroad since the age of 15. She initially moved to the United States, where she studied jazz at the University of California, Berkeley.[1][2] She dropped out of college when she realized she wanted to pursue a career in pop music and moved to London at the age of 18.[1][3]

Even before Jones became a successful singer, she became known for her songwriting. She wrote the lyrics for the song "We Are Bulletproof" by the South Korean boy band BTS, among others.[2] Jones performed as a street singer in London for two years.[4] She began creating her own music during the Black Lives Matter movement.[1][3] Jones made her debut in 2022 when she performed at the EMA 2022 with the song "Girls Can Do Anything".[1] In 2023, she received the Music Moves Europe Award for Best New European Artist, which brought her a cash prize and support in breaking into the European music scene.[1][2] She will compete at the EMA 2025 with the song "New Religion".[5]

Personal life

Jones is an openly LGBTQ+ person.[3] She is an advocate for women's rights and LGBT rights.[4]
