John Olsen Lear (1942) is the son of William (Bill) Lear, the famous inventor of the Learjet, an acclaimed professional pilot and a UFO expert.
John Lear has flown a variety of more than 150 test aircraft and more than 160 aircraft overall.
Lear holds every Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) airplane certificate, including airplane transport rating, flight instructor, ground instructor, flight navigator, engineer, aircraft dispatcher, airframe powerplant mechanic, parachute rigger and tower operator.
Lear holds 18 world speed records, including a speed record for a round-the-world flight in a Learjet in 1966.
As a civilian, John Lear has been a Lockheed L-1011 captain.
