Jerry Tardieu (né Marie Gerard Philippe Tardieu; born 13 July 1967) is a Haitian Author, Entrepreneur, and Former Congressman of Petion-Ville in the Chamber of Deputies.

Biography[edit]

Tardieu's family made their fortune in shipping and in real estate. In Haiti, he studied at Institution Saint-Louis de Gonzague before moving on to earn a degree from European University College, followed by a master's degree in Public Administration from Harvard University. There is a history of political service on both sides of his family: his paternal grandfather was elected to the Chamber of Deputies and his maternal great-grandfather had been War Minister during the presidency of Michel Oreste.[1]

Tardieu served as the president of the Alumni Association of Harvard University Graduates of Haiti, former vice-president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIH), former President of the Council for Economic and Social Development (CDES).[citation needed]

In the world of business and academia, his skills in both the private and public sectors contributed to Mr. Tardieu being regularly consulted in the development of institutional partnerships involving the Haitian state and the private sector. During his professional career, Tardieu was the CEO of many Haitian companies ranging from leather, real estate to hospitality. During the 2000s, as the president of the CCIH, Tardieu represented the private sector in many varied missions reuniting public and private decision makers. Aside from his activities in business field, Tardieu is involved in his community through KAP – Kolektif Abitan Petyonvil", a civil society engaged in the development and community-building aspect of the commune of Pétion-Ville.[citation needed]

Tardieu is a regular speaker at Haitian and foreign universities on various topics of interest covered by his publications or articles. The focus of his speeches and writings revolve around the idea of development and modernization of Haiti. In 2006 he published "Haïti: L’Avenir en Face, Un essai à success”. In 2014, “Investir et S’Investir en Haïti: Un acte de foi”, that garnered record sales in Haiti and the diaspora. In 2009, given his vast knowledge of the challenges relating to development and modernization, Tardieu was selected as a member of the Presidential Commission having for mandate to formulate propositions to amend the mother law of the Constitution of Haiti. As a symbol of his contributions to Haiti, Tardieu received numerous and notable awards and recognition medals abroad and in Haiti. [citation needed]

He has dedicated many years to serving Haiti and Haitians both in Haiti and abroad. In 2015, he launched his campaign for Haiti's Congress to represent Petion-Ville in the Chamber of Deputies (Chambre des Députés) and won the 2015 legislative elections by a landslide, achieving the highest score nationally. He then served as chairman of a special commission in charge of reforming Haiti's constitution. During his first year in parliament, he served as the minority leader at the lower Chamber. He completed a full four-year term as a congressman, serving from 2016 to 2020.

Before entering politics, Jerry Tardieu was a successful entrepreneur deeply involved in Haiti’s economic, social, and academic life. He served as a CEO of multiple Haitian companies in various sectors, including the leather industry, real estate, and hospitality. Alongside his achievements in the private sector, he was actively involved in social and academic activities. His entrepreneurial endeavors and early published books contributed to making him a well-known local and public figure. By the early 90s, he was already considered one of Haiti's progressive thinkers and in 1993, he received the "Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award" from Haiti's Ministry of Youth.

He is the author of many books, including two best sellers: “Invest and Invest in Haiti: an Act of Faith” (2014). In February 2020, Tardieu has released a tell-all book about his experience in Haiti's congress or parliament, titled "Dans l'enfer du parlement: quatre années de combat et des idées pour demain" “In Parliament’s Inferno: A Four-Year Battle and Ideas for the Future”.

On October 3, 2020, along with a group of concerned Haitians in Haiti and the Diaspora, the Honorable Jerry Tardieu created En Avant, a political and social movement aimed at changing Haiti for the better. En Avant's slogan is "En Avant, Pour Changer Haïti Ensemble" ("A Movement to Change Haiti Together"). The movement comprises individuals from Haiti and the diaspora, alongside social organizations, youth groups, and other entities operating across various sectors of national life. With ten pillars or fights called the "National Project," En Avant prioritizes security, employment, and education, among many others.

En Avant Haiti[edit]

En Avant Haiti - Mouvement Pour Changer Haiti Ensemble (Mouvman Pou'n Chanje Ayiti Ansanm)[edit]

"Some people think that the continued decline of our country is inevitable and that the worst is yet to come. The founders of the “EN AVANT” party dare to claim otherwise. Indeed, taking charge of politics through collective and visionary leadership can lead Haiti on the path to progress and development." National Coordinator, Jerry Tardieu

“ D'aucuns pensent que le déclin continu de notre pays est inévitable et que le pire est à venir. Les fondateurs du mouvement « EN AVANT » osent prétendre autrement. En effet, une prise en charge de la politique par un leadership collectif, visionnaire et conséquent peut conduire Haïti sur la voie du progrès et du développement”.

In 2020, the "En Avant movement" was born out of a group of concerned patriots who believed that our nation and its people deserved better. The official launch ceremony took place in Pétion-Ville on October 3rd, with thousands of Haitian patriots, supporters, and sympathizers from all 10 departments in attendance. The movement comprised individuals from Haiti and the diaspora, alongside social organizations, youth groups, and other entities operating across various sectors of national life.
