Holidu GmbH is a vacation rental company that provides a platform and services for booking and hosting of vacation rentals. The company was founded in 2014 and is headquartered in Munich, Germany.[1][2][3][4][5][6]

Overview

Holidu offers a software and service solution for vacation rental hosts aimed at supporting them in listing their properties online on multiple platforms, streamlining administration, and increasing bookings.[7][8][9][10]

Holidu's booking platform offers directly managed properties and lists vacation rentals from different platforms like VRBO and Booking.com.[11]

In 2016, the company secured €5 million in Series A funding. In 2019, Holidu raised €40 million in Series C funding, led by Prime Ventures.[12][13] In 2020, Kees Koolen, one of the founders of Booking.com and former CEO of Booking.com, has invested more than €4 million into the company from his personal fund as part of a €5 million extension to the €40 million Series C round of the previous year. In May 2021, the company raised €37 million in its Series D funding.[14][15][16][17][18][19] In October 2022, Holidu raised €104 million in a Series E funding round, led by 83North.[20][10][21][22] In total, the company has raised around €200 million (as of 2024).[23][24]

History

Holidu was founded in Munich in 2014 by the German brothers Johannes and Michael Siebers, after they had a frustrating experience booking a vacation apartment for a surfing vacation in Portugal.[25][26][27][28]

The foundation was based on an investment in the high six-figure range, funding from the EXIST start-up grant from the Federal Ministry of Economics together with the Institute for Entrepreneurship, Technology and Innovation (EnTechnon) at KIT Karlsruhe and an investment from business angels.[29]

In 2016, Holidu founded its subsidiary Bookiply, a software and service solution for hosts. In 2023, Holidu has merged the brand of Bookiply with the overarching Holidu brand.[27]

Acquisitions

In 2019, Holidu announced the acquisition of the Spanish company Hundredrooms, a vacation rental metasearch with the main focus on Spanish-speaking countries, for an undisclosed amount.[30][31][32]

In 2021, Holidu acquired the vacation rental platform Spain-Holiday to expand its customer base in Spain.[33][4]

In 2022, Holidu announced the purchase of the German companies Lohospo GbmH, a service company for hosts and destination marketing organizations, and my.IRS, a specialist for destination management in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.[34]

In 2024, Holidu took over Ferienwohnungen.de, a German online portal for vacation rentals.[35] Terms of the acquisition are not being disclosed. In the same year, Holidu discloses the purchase of Clubrural, a company specializing in rural rentals in Spain and Portugal, for an undisclosed sum.[4][36]
