You do not need an account in order to create a talk page. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:34, 15 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

sweet, thanks. Rd232 talk 11:43, 15 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Great idea

[edit]

This is very helpful and should be used more often on controversial articles. Ocaasi (talk) 17:23, 17 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You asked for possible places to advertise this. How about WP:Dispute resolution, WP:Controversy, WP:Edit war... Ocaasi (talk) 22:10, 17 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there - definitely a good idea, I haven't used the prefix search page often, just type in say 'talk:cheese/' lists sub pages in the search box and on results page . I don't remember enabling any gadgets to do this. Maybe this is built in now? Lee∴V (talkcontribs) 12:07, 20 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deprecation

[edit]

Now that the draft namespace is fully deployed, I think we should actively discourage creating draft versions in talk space. I see HectorMoffet made some alterations to this page last year. Could we go further and mark this page as historical? Also, is there any way to search for all these talkspace drafts and see if they could be moved to the draft namespace? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:22, 27 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have now marked this page as historical. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 22:44, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@MSGJ:The Draft namespace is for new articles. I think that a form of this guide is still needed for articles that are undergoing a major and/or disputed overhaul. - X201 (talk) 18:49, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Isn't the draft namespace also available for this use? It's better than using a talk page. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 20:04, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The Draft namespace doesn't make it obvious that its available for that use. Draft space is always talked about as being for new articles. Even the opening line of WP:DRAFTS states "Drafts of new Wikipedia articles may be stored in the "Draft" namespace.". I can see your point, but WP:DRAFTS gives the impression that its exclusively for new articles, using talk subpages for established articles seems to make more sense to me, keeping the discussion and the draft close to the article. - X201 (talk) 09:56, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I have removed the word "new" from that information page. I really don't think it is meant just for new articles. If you look at the section on incubation, which has moved to the draft namespace, you will see it refers to existing articles. Using a talk page for article content is just not good practice: especially when WP:FLOW gets activated on talk pages! Regards — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 12:05, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
