Useless diacritics

The current article states that "The charts below show the way in which the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) represents Lithuanian language pronunciations in Wikipedia articles". The diacritics denoting dental pronunciation are crucial for English speakers to understand that Lithuanian consonants are different from English ones. This is a Wikipedia in English after all. The place for narrow descriptions of Lithuanian sounds is Lithuanian phonology, not this guide, the aim of which is only to give a general idea on how to pronounce Lithuanian words. The dental diacritics are not needed here, as e.g. ⟨t⟩ in the official IPA may be dental, denti-alveolar, alveolar or postalveolar, depending on the language/accent (see Handbook of the IPA). Besides, Lithuanian contrasts dentals with alveolars only in case of sibilants, which already have different symbols from the dentals. Peter238 (talk) 16:13, 10 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Pitch accent

Wrong R

I am Lithuanian. We absolutely do not use the voiced alveolar trill. Most of us don't even know this sound exists. If you find a peasant Lithuanian using this sound, that's an extreme edge case. We use the voiced uvular trill. This is not "differences between different parts of Lithuania", etc. If you try to speak Lithuanian with an alveolar R, you'll sound ridiculous. Can we fix this? And the Lithuanian phonology page? Also, the Lithuanian row should be moved from the Voiced dental, alveolar and postalveolar trills page to the Voiced uvular trill page. 37.157.147.100 (talk) 10:21, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Missing diphthongs

This page seems to be missing information on diphthongs, like the ones written ⟨ai⟩ and ⟨au⟩ (there might be others). Is there a reason the ⟨ai⟩ diphthong is transcribed differently in Klaipeda vs. Šiauliai or are we just not being consistent there? – filelakeshoe (t / c) 🐱 13:56, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
