Overview
[edit]In-text cite link labels can be customized by using a group name that calls a custom label page. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style (footnotes)/Cite link labels for details.
Issues and resolution
[edit]The number of references using the group name exceeds the number of labels.
The labels were defined without a space separating each label.

This example uses the label style "error-test", a style used only for testing. As "error-test" has three labels defined, the fourth use of the same label with content "Reference 4" returns an error message:

Bugs

- The error message at MediaWiki:Cite error no link label group gets classed as a reference, so you can't use a wikilink in the message to link to a help page
- The reference list is an ordered list and uses numbers that don't match the in-text cite labels
