Harriet V. Kuhnlein
Harriet V. Kuhnlein is professor emerita of Human Nutrition at McGill University.[1] She is also Founding Director of the Centre for Indigenous Peoples' Nutrition and Environment (CINE).[1]
Education
[edit]Kuhnlein has a PhD from University of California, Berkeley and an honorary LL.D. from University of Western Ontario.[1]
Research
[edit]Kuhnlein's research relates to knowledge of food resources, protection of biocultural diversity, and well-being.[2] Her work has spanned more than 40 Indigenous cultures, including Hopi, Coast Salish, and Haudenosaune peoples.
Awards
[edit]In 2024, Kuhnlein was awarded the Distinguished Ethnobiologist Award from the Society of Ethnobiology.[3] Kuhnlein received the Unsung Heroes of McGill award in 2022.[4] Also in 2022, she received the Living Legend Award from the International Union of Nutritional Sciences.[5]
Personal life
[edit]Kuhnlein retired from McGill University in 2009. She is married.[6]
