Hannah Mae (born as Hannah Schoonbeek, Emmen, November 16, 1998) is a Dutch singer-songwriter.

Life

[edit]

Hannah Mae began writing songs when she was sixteen. Her song "Back to You" reached first place in the Tipparade in 2019.[1] Mae is under contract at the record label Spark Records The supermarket chain PLUS uses the song as background music in its ad-spots.

In 2021, after the corona lockdown had ended, Mae started her "Little Things Tour" through the Netherlands, where she released her first Dutch song "De Kerkstraat",[2] which is about betrayal, cheating, and heartbreaks. Two months later, she released "Wat Wil Je Van Mij", a collaboration between Mae and the Belgian singer Metejoor. This single reached the charts in the Netherlands and Belgium, where it stayed for weeks. The duo received a gold record for the song in 2023. In May of the same year, she released her single "Zonder", a song based on a made-up story.

At the end of 2023, she released "Waterdicht", a personal song written for her mother which addresses topics of mental health. In the song, Mae emphasizes that showing emotion is not a weakness but rather a path to connection and empathy with others. The song reached the ninth place in the Dutch Top 40.[3][4]

On May 23, 2024 she released "Ik Wil Dat Je Liegt" together with Belgian singer Maksim Stojanac, the song is about a relationship on the edge of falling apart and the denial and wish of it not being true. During the summer she performed at many festivals including back at Concert At Sea and she got to support Racoon & Acda and De Munnik several times. On August 31, 2024, their song became the winner of the Radio 2 Summer Hit in Belgium. From September 14, 2024, Mae will be one of the contestants of the television program Beste Zangers on Avrotros.[5]
