Goswami Durgapur Bahumukhi Secondary School (Bengali: গোস্বামী দুর্গাপুর বহুমুখী মাধ্যমিক বিদ্যালয়) is an old secondary school in Goswami Durgapur of Goswami Durgapur Union of Kushtia Sadar Upazila of Kushtia District . The school was established by the British in 1860.[2][3][4] The school was the first English High school in the remote areas of Greater Kushtia District.

Goswami Durgapur is a prosperous village of Kushtia Sadar Upazila. During the Mughal and British periods, the village was very prosperous and prosperous for trade and commerce. The township's fame reaches even as far away as Kolkata for many academics and cultural figures. Rai Bahadur Radhika Prasanna Mukherjee is the son of this town, his younger brother is professor and lawyer Rajakrishna Mukherjee who wrote many books including “History of Goswami Durgapur”, text books, poetry books. Kishori Mohan Mukherjee was a highly qualified doctor. History of school establishment[edit]

Rai Bahadur Radhika Prasanna Mukherjee was a high-ranking officer of the education department and established Goswami Durgapur High H.E. School in 1860 by constructing a two-storied building in this town with his own funds. At this time there were no secondary schools in Kushtia, Chuadanga, Meherpur. Calcutta University to approve the establishment of modern high schools in the province of Bengal at that time. The school is currently the first English higher school recognized by Calcutta University in Kushtia District.

At that time, in 1893, the school underwent a significant renovation.

The first headmaster of the school was Babu Gaudhari. Who served as the head teacher of the school for 34 years from 1860-1894.

The oldest and first building of the school was built in a simple design. But its entrance is quite grand. The 12 feet high and 04 feet wide entrance has three Roman columns on either side. The following is written on this pillar:

Founder of the school[edit]

Rai Bahadur Radhika Prasanna Mukherjee was the senior official of the Education Department of Nadia District. He established many educational institutions in different parts of the Indian subcontinent. In recognition of his actions, the censured British government awarded him the title of Companion of Indiana Emperor (CIE).

The school is running secondary class teaching program under Jessore Board.[1] There are 03 sections in 9th-10th class, they are-

The school has total 07 buildings. Besides, there are 02 huge playgrounds.
