Gassendiceras is an extinct genus of ammonoid cephalopods belonging to the family Hemihoplitidae. They lived in the Cretaceous period, Barremian age.[1]
Etymology
[edit]The genus name Gassendiceras honors the French philosopher and scientist Pierre Gassendi (1592 – 1655).

Description
[edit]Shells of Gassendiceras species can reach a diameter of about 300 millimetres (12 in).[1]
Distribution
[edit]Fossils of species within this genus have been found in the Cretaceous rocks of southeastern France.[1]
