The Future Brazilian Destroyer concept consists of a plan of the Brazilian Navy to develop a new class of destroyers or heavy frigates after the ongoing Tamandaré light frigates program.[1]

Context

With the cancellation of the PROSUPER program (a former Brazilian Navy modernization plan),[2][3] the admiralty and the MoD began to search for projects to modernize the Navy's combat assets, this search led to the Riachuelo-class in terms of submarines and to the newest Tamandaré-class frigates in terms of vessels of up to 4,000 tons, with the last capability gap in terms of 6,000 tons to be resolved.[4][5]

Potential global partners

Germany offered to the Brazilian Navy its newest destroyer project MEKO A-400, derived of the F125 class frigates. France and Italy offered its local variants of the FREMM multipurpose frigates called Aquitaine and Bergamini classes respectively. South Korea, India and the United Kingdom are among other countries that have offered projects in the last years.
