Non-free use rationale problem

[edit]

@DocFreeman24: Since this appears to be one of the files you were asking JJMC89 about at User talk:JJMC89#Bot Removing Video Game Cover Art with Valid Fair Use Rationale, let me try to explain why the bot at least removed this particular file. It appears that you did add a rudimentary non-free use rationale to File:Battle of the Buldge Video Game.jpg#Summary, but the problem is that you mistakenly listed the name of the article where the file is intended to be used as Battle of the Buldge (video game) and not Battle of the Bulge (video game) (i.e., the word "bulge" is spelled incorrectly in the rationale). When JJMC89 bot goes around checking files for non-free use problems, it's looking for rationales that contain Wikilinks to existing articles to make sure that file meets at least WP:NFCC#10c, and it removes files from articles where it doesn't find any such links. The bot is really only assessing whether a rationale meets NFCC#10c.

So, when the bot checked this file, it found a red link (the bot is unable to detect this was only caused by a spelling errors) and thus removed the file. When you re-added the file again to the article without fixing the link, the bot removed it yet again. The bot will keep do this as long as the rationale is malformed. Just for reference, there are certain types of templates you can use for rationales as explained in WP:FUR#Template. You're not required to use them, but that can sometimes make things a bit easier to sort out and mistakes like this easier to catch.

The file is currently "orphaned non-free content" which means it's not being used in at least one article as required by WP:NFCC#7. Orphaned non-free content is eligible for speedy deletion per WP:F5 and this file will be deleted unless it's added to at least one article. Since you uploaded the file, you will receive a notification of this on your user talk page, but I've gone ahead and corrected the spelling error in the rationale and re-added the file to the article's infobox. If do not want to use the file there, please remove it again and it will eventually be deleted. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:00, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Marchjuly:, thank you. As I mentioned on JJMC89's page, I figured out the issues for the images the bot removed (including the spelling error you identified above) and will address them when I can. I don't have time right now but probably will get to this and the other images later today. Thanks again. DocFreeman24 (talk) 01:09, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I've done two for you, but you can straighten out the rest. Just don't leave them orphaned for too long. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:13, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thanks for fixing those issues! As I mentioned, I'll get the rest later today! Thanks again!! DocFreeman24 (talk) 01:26, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
